We get a lot of questions about what it takes to tow one of the new r-pod’s. As a refresher, the rp-151 and rp-152 models are 16” and weigh in around 1950 lbs, with a hitch weight of under 200 lbs. Most smaller SUV’s or Van’s require a towing package similar to what is show here:
4-Cylinder Towing Prep Package -- includes 3500-lb. towing capacity, heavy-duty radiator, 160-watt fan coupling, transmission oil cooler with water and air cooler, 150-amp alternator and prewired harness.
Here is a short list of vehicles capable of towing the r-pod: (vehicles in ‘teal’ require towing package)
BWM X3 | Grand Caravan | Town & Country |
Ford Edge & Escape | Dodge Magnum | Hyundai Odyssey |
Hyundai Veracruz | Honda Pilot | Honda Ridgeline |
Infiniti FX | Isuzu I290 | Jeep Liberty |
Jeep Wrangler Unlimited | Kai Sorento | Lexus RX 350 and RX 400 |
Mercury Mariner | Mitsubishi Enclave | Pontiac Torrent |
Mazda B-400, CX-7, CX-9 and Tribute | Mitsubishi Outlander | Volvo S60, S80 & V70 |
Saab 9-3, 9-5 | Saturn Outlook & Vue | Suzuki XL7 |
Suzuki Grand Vitara | Toyota Sienna | Toyota Highlander |
Chevy Blazer/Trailblazer | Pontiac Envoy | Pontiac Aztec |
Thanks for the info, I'm in Indianapolis and my wife and I are looking to upgrade a vehicle so we can get a teardrop, and so far the R Pods look like the best deal.
ReplyDeleteMaybe we'll see you soon!
I'm so glad I found this list of vehicles that will tow the 151. We've sold our 5th wheel trailer and are on our way today to buy our R-Pod. We have a Jeep Wrangler Unlimited (Rubicon) and felt pretty good about all the stats we've read about towing the R-Pod, but I'm glad to see the jeep listed here. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteYou are welcome... we had a guy from Az drive in with a Jeep and pick up an r-pod last month -... photos are here: http://www.vuvox.com/collage/detail/0f1bb4d9d
ReplyDeleteI found the r-pod Owners web site www.rpodnation.com online here ... thanks for the information and web site.
ReplyDeleteDo you think I could tow this behind a Chevy Malibu? I will need to add a tow hitch to my car but really would like to get back into camping. Also, what size would you recommend?
ReplyDeleteCAN A TUSCAN 6 CYL PULL A 151 RPOD?
ReplyDeleteare you still making the 152? another post somewhere online says that you are not making the 151s and 152s.
ReplyDeletethanks!
I see "Hyundai Odyssey" in your list. Is this "Honda Odyssey" or "Hyundai something"?
ReplyDeleteThanks.
our toyota forerunner 1999 pulled the r pod from texas to florida without problem. it just used a lot more gas.
ReplyDeleteI currently have a Ford F-150 Crew Cab with the 4.6 V8 but I want to downsize to a Toyota Tacoma Double Cab with a V6 for the increased fuel economy. I am also considering purchasing a
ReplyDeleteR-Pod and the question is will the Tacoma pull it without struggling. I live in Vermont and so the terrain is somewhat hilly but not like the Rockies.
